Phil and Liz are energetic types and planned a week of cycling and walking when they stayed with us here at Number 10.

Sauveterre de Bearn

Keen to de-stress and unwind, they planned to spend their days 'relaxing' by exploring the area on two wheels.

They had organised bike hire from nearby Navarrenx and theywere delivered to Number 10 ready on the first morning.

There are marked cycle routes, one of which passes through the village, or you can simply explore as they did.

Amongst their discoveries was the 'Principality' of Laàs en Béarn complete with its border crossing and Customs post.

The Principality is an initiative of the Mayor who first proposed the idea in August 2011 to protest against the administrative reforms of the French government.   It subsequently officially declared its independence on January 1, 2015.
